Description
The twin-spotted spiketail, Zoraena maculata, is a dragonfly in the family Cordulegastridae described by Edmond de Sélys Longchamps in 1854. Reaching lengths of 2.5 to 3.0 inches, or approximately 7 cm, the species is characterized by yellow spots on the dorsal side of the abdomen. Males are distinguished by a yellow top of the head, while females have a brown head. This dragonfly inhabits small, clear streams across North America, including parts of Canada and the eastern United States.
