The Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus), also known as Steller's sea lion or the northern sea lion, is a large, near-threatened species of sea lion, predominantly found in the coastal marine habitats of the northeast Pacific Ocean and the Pacific Northwest regions of North America, from north-central California to Oregon, Washington and British Columbia to Alaska. Its range continues across the Northern Pacific and the Aleutian Islands, all the way to Kamchatka, Magadan Oblast, and the Sea of Okhotsk, south to Honshu's northern coastline. It is the sole member of the genus Eumetopias, and the largest of the so-called eared seals (Otariidae). Among pinnipeds, only the walrus and the two species of elephant seal are bigger. The species is named for the naturalist and explorer Georg Wilhelm Steller, who first described them in 1741. Steller sea lions have attracted considerable attention in recent decades, both from scientists and the general public, due to significant (and largely unexplained) declines in their numbers over an extensive portion of their northern range, notably in Alaska.

Lachtan ušatý či lachtan Stellerův (Eumetopias jubatus) je velký mořský savec, největší zástupce čeledi lachtanovitých (Otariidae) a jediný zástupce rodu Eumetopias. Obývá břehy Tichého oceánu konkrétně od Britské Kolumbie přes Aljašku a ostrovy v Beringově moři, přes pobřeží asijského východu a Japonsko až po Sachalin. Z ploutvonožců ho dokáže co do velikosti dohnat jedině mrož lední (Odobenus rosmarus) nebo rypouši.
Jeho méně známý název lachtan Stellerův pochází od Georga Wilhelma Stellera, po kterém byl tento savec pojmenován na počest toho, že jako první v roce 1741 tento druh popsal.

Su hábitat actual se extiende desde las islas Kuriles, el mar de Ojotsk y la costa de la península de Kamchatka en Rusia, a lo largo de las islas Aleutianas, hasta la costa pacífica americana, desde el golfo de Alaska hasta la isla Año Nuevo en California. Le lion de mer de Steller, ou otarie de Steller (Eumetopias jubatus), est la plus grande des espèces d'otaries. Le mâle peut vivre jusqu'à 20 ans et les femelles 30 ans. Les mâles sont quatre fois plus lourds que les femelles et les plus gros peuvent atteindre 1 tonne pour une longueur de 3 m. Une femelle pèse environ 270 kg pour 2,20 m de longueur. C'est la seule espèce du genre Eumetopias.

최대 몸길이는 수컷의 경우 3.25m, 암컷의 경우 2.9m 정도이고, 최대 몸무게는 수컷 1,120kg, 암컷 350kg이다. 그러나 수컷의 보통 크기는 평균 3m에 566kg, 암컷은 2.5m에 263kg이다. 새끼는 흑갈색을 띠나 성장함에 따라 코르크색이 되며 가슴배부는 색이 짙어진다. 머리 앞부분은 편평하나 중앙부는 높아져 있다. 송곳니는 크고 앞니도 바깥 것은 송곳니와 비슷하다. 북극 지방의 얼음이 둥둥 떠다니는 곳을 좋아하고 바위·모래·풀 위 같은 곳에서 산다. 물고기를 즐겨 먹지만 오징어도 잡아먹는다.
6월에 10~15마리의 암컷이 무리를 이루어 새끼를 낳는데, 새끼는 한배에 한 마리를 낳는다. 번식기에 수컷은 10~15마리의 암컷을 거느리고 살다가 번식기가 지나면 분산한다. 암컷은 어린 새끼의 목을 물어서 운반하며, 위험을 느낄 때에는 곧 바다 속으로 들어간다. 태평양의 북부에서 번식하고 겨울에는 캘리포니아 연안에 도달한다. 아시아에서는 시베리아 연안으로부터 캄차카·베링해·사할린·쿠릴 열도에서 번식하고, 겨울에는 홋카이도·한반도 동해안 등지에 나타난다.
천적은 북극곰, 범고래, 백상아리, 잠꾸러기상어 등이다. 청력이 잘 발달되어 있으며 암컷이 수컷보다 소리에 더 민감하다. 양자 모두 범고래가 내는 소리를 들을 수 있다. 먹이로 삼는 종으로는 명태, 가자미, 청어, 열빙어, 대구, 우럭, 연어, 둑중개, 까나리 등이 있다.
